Let us introduce you to Big Cedar, a bluegrass band. Bluegrass is acoustic music with an old time feel to it. It is the perfect listening music for new and exciting entertainment at meetings, picnics and small private parties. Big Cedar can perform with or without a sound system depending on the size of your group.
Big Cedar has been performing locally and at regional festivals since 1992 and consists of four musicians who play banjo, acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle and upright bass. The band performs instrumental as well as vocal numbers with three and four part harmony - even some old time gospel. The upbeat bluegrass sound of Big Cedar will have you clapping your hands and tapping your feet and the energy of all band members working around one microphone is really fun to watch.
Big Cedar loves to be challenged, so the band hosts a fall and winter concert series at the Still Waters Church in Jackson, WI. Once a month Big Cedar does a concert of all different songs - often themed. Sometimes it is "The Cedar Valley Ranch Hands": with all cowboy songs. Sometimes you will see the "Green Cedar Rovers" with Irish bluegrass. Sometimes it's all Bill Monroe songs, done Big Cedar style. The second set of music at Still Waters Church is very often all audience requests.
Well, you get the picture. Big Cedar has fun and you will too.
Introducing the band members:
Jim Burch - Jim plays banjo, dobro, guitar and mandolin and sings baritone
and lead with the band. Jim has been playing in bands over the
past twenty years and he really knows his way around stringed instruments.
Steve Dekker - Steve played bass with the band Alive and Pickin'. He provides
the driving beat essential to every bluegrass band
Tim Dekker - Tim also played with Alive and Pickin'. He plays fiddle with
Big Cedar and sings leads, tenor and baritone. Tim's electrifying
fiddle style adds interest to Big Cedars sound.
Marty Burch - Marty plays rhythm guitar and sings lead or tenor. She has been
playing in bands since the 1960's and her vocals round out the
sound with an interesting variety.
Together, these folks form Big Cedar, and they have fun - you will too!
If you are interested in a different kind of musical entertainment for your next event, try
Big Cedar for great bluegrass music.

Happy New Year everyone, I think. I sure hope that things take a better turn soon.
That said, Jim, Tim, Steve and I have been talking and trying to decide just what we want to do band wise. After we had to cancel nearly all of our shows in 2020, we started to take a hard look at the upcoming year, our families and our willingness to carry on for a 29th year.
We have decided that Big Cedar had a wonderful, 28 year run - thanks to support from friends and fans like you but we will be retiring the band. We hope to have one big "Farewell" show sometime once it's safe and we have a venue.
Jim and I will be holding 1 hour driveway concerts at our West Bend home once the weather permits and Tim and Steve are welcome to join us if they are available, but we won't be booking any regular Big Cedar shows. If you wish to get an email when we are planning one of these - please let me know. You would have to bring lawn chairs, a mask and your own water - there is no bathroom available to use here, but the park across the street has public restrooms and I have wipes and sanitizer you could use.
Big Cedar thanks you all so much for the years of fun and support. We wish you all the best.
Stay safe and healthy -
Much love and many thanks,
